C-ITS

The Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS)

The Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) take more and more place in the sector of transport. Also called connected vehicles, this solution allow the vehicles to communicate between them (V2V) but also with the infrastructure (V2I). The application Cooperative ITS allows on one hand to improve the safety and on the other hand to make energy savings and reduce the CO2 footprint.

NeoGLS is interested in this technology since 2012 through the deployment of the first operational pilot of cooperative systems in France in Bordeaux. During this first large-scale deployment within the framework of the European project Compass4D, we installed 22 stations ITS or Road Side Units (RSU) connected to the infrastructure and 34 stations ITS or On Board Units (OBU) in light vehicles and emergency vehicles. This deployment was made on urban roads with an exchange of data with the management system of lights called GERTRUDE but also on peri-urban on the bypass of Bordeaux.

This deployment worked during one year and was used during the ITS World Congress in Bordeaux from 5 until 9 October 2015. He allowed the functioning of several connected but also autonomous vehicles by producing the information of the real time traffic lights in the format SPAT/MAP.

We also demonstrated that the interoperability between the various equipments worked and according to Hermann Meyer, director of ERTICO-ITS EUROPE, it is a big advance.

In front of the success of this deployment and the importance which takes the Cooperative ITS in the world of transport, NeoGLS decided to put a lot durably into this technology. First of all by agreeing to extend during one year the experimental site of Bordeaux in Compass4D but also to participate in the European project CO-GISTICS with the increase of the territory covered as well as the implementation of a communication 4G.

This new pilot allows us to be the only ones to propose C-ITS services in 2 modes of communication that are G5 and 4G.

During the various deployments we developed several cases of uses which allow to increase the safety (Alert emergency vehicle, road Events) but also to reduce the consumption and the creation of CO2 (GLOSA, start/stop idling). We continue to develop new cases of uses in particular to answer needs recommended by the European platform C-ITS (C-ITS platform) in particular at first the cases of uses Day 1.

This operational experience allows us to propose a turnkey solution for other cities or main highways. We indeed developed and integrated all the elements necessary for the deployment of cooperative systems as much at the level of the infrastructure as the vehicles.
